Harbour Friends Social Group for people living at Sovereign Harbour Eastbourne
Alison Attwood - October 2006

Harbour Friends has made a massive difference to my life. I moved to Eastbourne in 2005 and enjoyed an active social life – but it was all off the Harbour. I would commute home from London, dash in, change and dash out again. I have always loved my marina home but it was just somewhere to sleep and occasionally chill out.

Then I joined Harbour Friends in Spring 2006 and fell in with a great bunch of people. Straightaway I started to feel part of the Harbour community and now I rarely walk around the marina without bumping into someone I know. Being a bit of an overgrown girl guide, I love to organise things so I was delighted to plan some Sunday walks, theatre trips and a safari supper with my new friends. Even better, I could join in events that other people had organised, from BBQs to bowling.

But the really big change came in summer 2006 when I gave up commuting to enjoy the summer - and what a summer it was! With the help of various Harbour Friends I am learning to sail, I’ve been shrimping and prawning, I catch, gut and cook my own supper, and a few of us have just started up an allotment - so the “Good Life” is well and truly thriving in Eastbourne.

I have always enjoyed life, but I can honestly say I have never had as much fun as I am having now...thanks to Harbour Friends.
